Moving forwards, together
There has been a considerable amount of lobbying for investment, most recently on improvements to roads and rail around the region, but there is also the recognition that more efficient use could be made of the transport assets the region already has.
Integration of transport modes is necessary to ensure that the maximum benefit is gained from the investment that is planned on infrastructure across the region, particularly on the railways through refranchising, electrification and the longer term HS2 and TransNorth railway (HS3).
NRIL sees connecting the railways with other public transport at key hubs, strategic road networks and car parks as imperative. Providing improved customer information for their onward journeys will also enrich rail travel in the region.
Greater use of technology and innovation will allow allow for seamless ticketing and access to information, whether directly to individuals or into public spaces.
Alongside this, greater collaboration between different operators and authorities is required to deliver significant improvements to passenger experience.
